There are plenty of live poker events and tournaments around the world that are postponed. One of the biggest competitions is the World Series of Poker (WSOP 2020), and poker fans and players around the world are worried. Will the WSOP be postponed, or will it stay as scheduled?

The WSOP 2020 – Is It Still an Option?

The WSOP 2020 is the 51st edition of this prestigious poker tournament. The last update came from Gregory Chochon, WSOP Director stated that they are continuing to monitor the pandemic impact on a day-to-day basis.  He also added that although players come from more than 100 countries each year, almost 85% of them are American players. He stated that the USA is a bit behind Europe in terms of the pandemic.

The WSOP first stated their position regarding the tournament at the end of January of this year. The VP of Corporate Communications of the WSOP noted that they are monitoring the situation closely. He also added that the plans, the events, and the schedules remain the same, and they are going as planned. On the other hand, with the growing worries regarding the outbreak on an international level, Chochon admits that all different and possible scenarios are available. He also stressed that there is no decision yet.

Still too early To Decide about the Future of the Tournament

Chochon made it clear that it is still early to make the decision, as there might be even a lot going on by May. Therefore, it is still too early to cancel, postpone, or maintain the WSOP 2020 or making a decision. He added that they are taking things slowly, and they will take their time to figure out the best scenario.

Chochon also made it clear that the World Series of Poker can react quickly to adapt to any changes and updates. They can always shift the events slightly to find solutions so that they can respond promptly to any possible changes. He hoped that the world would get over the problem and for the crisis to be over. The situation facing the WSOP is not at all different than the condition affecting the Olympics 2020.

Chochon ended his talk about the issue by saying that so far, there is no deadline for the decision. It is a tough decision, but currently, they cannot make a decision.  He also stated that up to this moment, there is no change in the stance of the WSOP 2020. So up to this date, there is no delay or change in the schedule of the WSOP.
